Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders and Innovators

The Bishop’s University 2025-2029 Strategic Plan articulates our community’s bold ambitions for our institution in a time of accelerated change and significant challenges for the university sector at home and abroad.

This strategic plan remains true to Bishop’s identity while growing our capacity to empower tomorrow’s leaders and innovators. It will reinforce the unique opportunities a Bishop’s education provides as a result of our distinctive learning model as well as our unmatched student experience. This strategic plan will guide our University’s actions for the next four years, building on a strong consensus created through an extensive planning process conducted over the 2024-2025 academic year.

This process included surveying all faculty, staff, students and alumni as well as interviews with key external stakeholders. Community workshops and parallel university-wide consultations were used to review Bishop’s Mission, Vision and Values as well as set goals, strategies and an action plan to be deployed over the next four years. This 2025-2029 strategic plan was then discussed and adopted by the Board of Governors.

The strategic planning process and strategic plan implementation are steered by the University’s Planning Committee while the Principal and the Secretary General are entrusted with their overall management.

Progress will be continuously monitored with an annual progress report to be presented to the Board of Governors and the wider Bishop’s community.

By the time I had spent my first few hours on campus, I knew I had nothing to worry about. Bishop’s became my home away from home in no time. Bishop’s provides a warm and very welcoming environment. It’s small in size but large in spirit.

Mission

Bishop’s is shaped by its identity as an English-language university located on W8banakiak wdakiw8k, the traditional lands of the Abenaki Nation, on a striking natural campus in a predominantly francophone region of Quebec.

We empower students to achieve their full potential and develop a strong sense of self. Our educational experience is based on breadth and depth of learning, collaboration across disciplines, research and creativity, meaningful interaction with faculty and staff, and opportunities to learn by doing. Our unique model enables us to cultivate tomorrow’s innovators and leaders.

Vision

To be widely recognized as an inclusive university that prepares students to contribute with purpose, compassion and impact in a rapidly changing and increasingly complex world.

Values

Community

The Bishop’s experience is founded on a diverse and supportive community that welcomes all our members as they are and that fosters meaningful connections through reciprocity, respect and responsibility.

Empowerment

Bishop’s is about empowering all our students to reach their full potential, both inside and outside the classroom. We believe in growth through curiosity, inspiration, intellectual rigour and dedication.

Sustainability

Bishop’s has constantly evolved since our foundation in 1843, building on our strong tradition of quality for the benefit of future generations. Financial, academic, social and environmental stewardship are at the core of our mission.

Harmony

Learning is grounded in fundamental human aspirations. Beauty, joy, hope, and empathy are embedded in Bishop’s mission as we challenge all members of our community to positively change the world.

Goals and Strategies

  1. Ensure Bishop’s long-term financial sustainability
  2. Strengthen what sets Bishop’s apart in cultivating tomorrow’s innovators and leaders
  3. Enhance Bishop’s impact, reputation and recognition
The creation of this strategic plan would not have been possible without extensive community participation.
