Graduate Studies at Bishop’s

Bishop’s University offers a selection of graduate programs designed to offer students the opportunity to further their academic and professional development all while remaining in the intimate setting of a small, liberal arts institution, where teacher-student interaction and small class sizes are always a priority. Through theoretical learning and research-based practice, Bishop’s University aims to offer its graduate students the opportunity to strengthen their leadership and critical reflection skills in order to better prepare them for a successful career.

Graduate Programs

Bishop’s offers a wide selection of graduate programs, thesis-based and course-based, including the newly approved Individualized Master of Arts and Master of Sciences.

Master in Educational Studies and Educational Studies and Leadership (M.A / M.Ed.)

Bishop’s School of Education offers a Master of Education in Educational Studies and Leadership (M.Ed.) (non-thesis), designed to meet academic and professional needs of educators and administrators. As well, we offer a Master of Arts in Educational Studies (M.A.) (thesis) to prepare educational professionals to pursue research-based inquires, often leading to doctoral studies in education.

Master of Science in Computer Science (MSc)

We offer a thesis-based as well as a course-based Master of Science (MSc). The course-based Master’s offers a solid background for students aiming at a professional career. The academic focus of the thesis-based Master’s is excellence in research and it aims to provide a starting point to students oriented toward PhD studies but also to professionally inclined candidates. Many of our thesis-based graduates have pursued PhD studies, but several have gone into successful professional careers right after completing their degree.

Master of Science in Physics (thesis-based)

The Master’s Program is designed to give students a deeper appreciation of physics while giving them a comprehensive exposure to research methodology that will allow them to become independent researchers. Research is being carried out in the following areas:

  • Astrophysics (Stellar and Binary Evolution, Exoplanets, Multi-Messenger Astrophysics)
  • Gravitation & Cosmology (Modified Gravity, Gravitational and Cosmological Theory, Black Holes)
  • Theoretical Physics (Quantum Field theory, Solitons/Instantons, Gravity, Particle Physics)
Master of Arts (M.A.) or Master of Science (M.Sc.) – Individualized Program

Thesis-based, Individualized Masters Programs allow students to tailor a Master’s program (M.Sc. or M.A) to specific research goals and explore topics outside of traditional disciplines. Students applying to the Individualized Program must contact a supervisor in a field of research they are interested in and collaborate with them to develop a proposal for a research project and program of study.
