Dr. Miles Turnbull arrived at Bishop’s University in January of 2014 after serving as Dean of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island for two years, where he was also Associate Dean and Coordinator of Graduate Studies. He joined the Faculty of Education at UPEI in 2002 as Associate Professor, after five years as Lecturer and then Assistant Professor in the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto (OISE).…Contact Information and full bio

Dr. Miles Turnbull arrived at Bishop’s University in January of 2014 after serving as Dean of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island for two years, where he was also Associate Dean and Coordinator of Graduate Studies. He joined the Faculty of Education at UPEI in 2002 as Associate Professor, after five years as Lecturer and then Assistant Professor in the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto (OISE). From 1992 to 1994, Dr. Turnbull taught French as a second language at Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific in Victoria, B.C. Dr. Turnbull has a strong record of publication, including several books and a list of refereed articles. The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and the Canadian Association of Second-language teachers have both provided funding for his research on second-language teaching and learning. He holds an International Baccalaureate from the Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific, a B.A. in French from UPEI, an M.A. in Applied Linguistics: Teaching French Second Language from McMaster University and a Ph.D. in Second Language Education from the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. Dr. Turnbull believes strongly in BU’s focus on students and teaching as the core of our mission. He has a special interest in the internationalization of university education, including not only exchange opportunities for students and faculty, but a focus on diversity. Dr. Turnbull is fluently bilingual. His work on French as a second language has enabled him to develop a sensibility for the challenges faced by minority communities.
