Senate Research Committee Grants

The Senate Research Committee (SRC) provides funds for the presentation of posters and papers at internationally recognized conferences, for small-scale research projects, and for the publication of research results.

Allocation of all internal grants and institutional funding at Bishop’s University undergo a competitive, peer-reviewed process adjudicated by the Senate Research Committee (SRC). The mandate of the SRC is to support, encourage, and develop research within the Bishop’s University academic community. The SRC is composed of one faculty member from each division and school, the Vice-Principal Academic, one librarian and the Director of Research and Graduate Studies (ex officio). The Senate Nominating Committee is responsible for filling the vacant positions held by faculty members and the librarian. In September or October of each year, the names of the committee members are brought to Senate for approval, by the Chair of the Senate Nominating Committee.

For each competition, a call for proposals is sent by email to all faculty members, contract faculty, and professional librarians one month prior to a competition deadline, with a reminder one week before the deadline. The call is also published in the internal Research Newsletter. The Office of Research and Graduate Studies offers support and assistance to the SRC. A full time Research Grants Officer is dedicated to work with the SRC for the grant’s adjudication. The RGO’s tasks include verifying the candidates’ and the applications’ eligibility, preparing the assessment tools and ensuring the compliance of the evaluation process with the institutional and the programs’ instructions and policies. The RGO also compiles the recommendations of the committee prior to the adjudication and prepares the meeting.

In order to ensure an unbiased review process, all members of the Senate Research Committee are invited to complete an EDI training, including the CRC Unconscious Bias Training Module. The SRC is committed to promote Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Research and ensures equitable access to funding opportunities for all researchers. Bishop’s University is a Dimensions Charter endorser.
