International Students’ Virtual Office

Do you have questions about your international student status? Your obligations? Your arrival? Come and meet our Regulated International Student Immigration Advisors (RISIA). These sessions are a 5-10 minute drop-in meeting period on Zoom. When you come to the Virtual Office, you will be placed automatically in a waiting room. Please be patient and wait until you are admitted. Depending on the time of year, there may be quite a few students in line! To help us help you, please come prepared with your Bishop’s student ID number so that we can easily find your file. Come knock on the door of our virtual office!

Every Tuesday and Thursday morning, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. EST.

* The Virtual Office is closed occasionally during the year (ex: Reading Week, Christmas holidays).

Do you have questions about your international student status? Your obligations? Your arrival? Do you have any questions about mobility opportunities abroad that may be available to you? Come and meet the Bishop’s International team to find answers to your questions!

The staff of Bishop’s International is located in Norton (204-205-206).

Drop-in hours: Mondays and Wednesdays, 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Come see us in Norton 203 (International Student Lounge).

How to Apply for the Intern Work Permit (online)

Study permit holders whose program of study includes a mandatory internship or work experience must apply for and obtain a free intern work permit from IRCC. This work permit is required regardless of whether the internship is paid or not, and regardless of whether the internship is on-campus or off-campus. As outlined on our website, Bishop’s students must upload their intern work permit or the proof of having applied online for the permit prior to the add/drop deadline in the semester in which their work experience(s) is taking place.  Working in Canada – Bishop’s University

If your program of study includes an internship or work experience, do not miss this workshop to learn about procedures specific to Bishop’s as well as how to apply for the intern work permit.

This workshop is offered once a semester prior to the add/drop deadline. Students who have questions in the meantime about this permit are invited to come to the Virtual Office or to write to international@ubishops.ca.

Tax obligations for international students (online webinar)

The Canada Revenue Agency is unable to offer their tax obligation workshop this season.  We encourage you to make use of their online resources and tools.

CAQ and Study Permit Renewal Process (online)

Each semester, workshops on the CAQ and study permit renewal are offered on a monthly basis. Prior to attending our workshop, please read about the renewal process on our website and come prepared to ask your questions. The immigration landscape has been rapidly evolving since January 2024 – and continues to evolve. Even if you have previously had to renew your documents, do not assume that the process will be same. Attend this webinar to make sure you are up to date!

A copy of this presentation is also available for consultation on the Bishop’s International section of the myBU portal.
