International Students’ Virtual Office

Do you have questions about your international student status? Your obligations? Your arrival? Come and meet our Regulated International Student Immigration Advisors (RISIA) Lysange Gervais and Alison Threatt. These sessions are a 5-10 minute drop-in meeting period on Zoom. When you come to the Virtual Office, you will be placed automatically in a waiting room. Please be patient and wait until you are admitted. Depending on the time of year, there may be quite a few students in line! To help us help you, please come prepared with your Bishop’s student ID number so that we can easily find your file. Come knock on the door of our virtual office!

Every Tuesday and Thursday morning, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. EST.

Bishop’s International is pleased to welcome new international students to campus each fall and winter.

Bishop’s International’s mandatory 3-day International Welcome: Onboarding for Newcomers to Canada will take place from Wednesday, August 27th to Friday, August 29th prior to the start of the Fall semester.

Studying in a new country can be both exciting and overwhelming. Our International Welcome aims to assist your transition to Bishop’s by offering you a range of workshops combined with social activities to help you start making new friends. Workshops will cover subjects as diverse as cultural adaptation, academic success, Indigenous and intercultural awareness and mental health.

  • Dates: Wednesday, August 27th to Friday, August 29th
    • Participation in the full three days is required. It is not possible to participate in only one or two days of this event.
  • For whom?
    • Mandatory for new international students and incoming exchange students.
    • Newcomers to Canada such as Canadian citizens who have never lived in Canada and new permanent residents are encouraged to participate.
  • Fee: $125
    • After registration, this non-refundable fee will be charged to your student account (tuition invoice) alongside your health insurance fee.
    • Deadline for payment: September 30, 2025.
    • Included: shuttle transportation from Montreal Trudeau (YUL) Airport (limited spaces; available on a first come, first served basis); meals and activities during International Welcome
  • How to register:  
    • In June, all international students who have accepted their offer of admission will receive an email invitation to register for International Welcome. Students in other situations can write to international@ubishops.ca .
    • Please note that you must log-in to the registration form using your Bishop’s University credentials.
    • Please only register for International Welcome once you know whether you will be living on campus or off campus, and once you have your confirmed travel information (ex: flight details).
    • Students registered for International Welcome will receive email follow-ups during the summer by a member of the Bishop’s International team.  
  • Deadline to register: Friday, August 15th

Personalized Welcome

From September 4th to 16th, the Bishop’s International team of student ambassadors will continue to welcome incoming students each weekday to answer your questions and help you get acclimated. No registration necessary!

Our team of Student Ambassadors will share essential information with you, whether it’s insurance and immigration documents or nailing Bishop’s essentials like WiFi, B.U. email, Moodle, and more, making your student life and acing your semester easier. If you have not yet uploaded your immigration documents to your myBU student file, bring them with you for assistance from our team.

  • September 8th to 12th, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM
  • September 15th and 16th, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM

Study permit holders whose program of study includes a mandatory internship or work experience must apply for and obtain a free intern work permit from IRCC. This work permit is required regardless of whether the internship is paid or not, and regardless of whether the internship is on-campus or off-campus. As outlined on our website, Bishop’s students must upload their intern work permit or the proof of having applied online for the permit prior to the add/drop deadline in the semester in which their work experience(s) is taking place.  Working in Canada – Bishop’s University
