Bishop’s University Library is a member of the Partenariat des bibliothèques universitaires du Québec (PBUQ). The PBUQ’s mission is to promote cooperation between university libraries in Quebec and to develop projects, activities, services, and platforms to better meet the needs of the university community in the province. BUQ Borrowers include students, staff, and faculty at Bishop’s University and Champlain College.

One of the projects is a reciprocal borrowing agreement. This means BUQ Borrowers can place a request on a regularly circulating item held by a PBUQ partner institution directly from the online discovery tool Sofia, and pick-up the item at their home institution. This type of request is a Network Loan. This agreement also means that PBUQ borrowers can use some in-person services at any PBUQ institution, such as:

  • Browsing the shelves and then borrowing an item in-person from a PBUQ that is not the borrower’s home institution.
  • Returning PBUQ borrowed material to any PBUQ library. There are restrictions to this, for example the borrowed item should:
    • not be overdue;
    • not have a hold or recall; or
    • not be a reserve item.

Each PBUQ library determines additional limitations of the reciprocal borrowing privileges. Below is a list of PBUQ participating libraries:
