Tree Canopy Sherbrooke Project with Dr. Elisabeth Levac

Climate change projections predict more frequent and intense heatwaves. Considering that many of our cities are already grappling with excess heat during summer months, how can we mitigate the impacts of future heatwaves? One powerful solution lies in the trees around us. Trees help cool urban heat islands, filter air pollution, and enhance our overall well-being.

That’s why a team of students and researchers from Bishop’s University and Université de Sherbrooke has launched the Tree Canopy Sherbrooke project. As part of this initiative, QR codes have been placed on select trees throughout Bishop’s campus and at Parc Jacques Cartier in downtown Sherbrooke. We encourage you to seek out these trees and learn about the many benefits they offer to urban communities.

The Goal: We want to inspire the public to explore the vital role of trees in our cities, promote tree planting, protect our urban canopy, and raise awareness about the urban heat island effect.
