Signing of an historic agreement for the House of Knowledge – The first university for First Peoples in Québec takes shape

On February 13, Associate Director of Indigenous Initiatives Vicky Boldo and Principal Sébastien Lebel-Grenier represented Bishop’s University at the announcement of the Maison des savoirs, which will be the first higher education establishment by and for Indigenous peoples in Québec.

The First Nations Education Council (FNEC) is proud to announce an historic partnership with all Quebec universities to lay the foundations for the House of Knowledge, the first university teaching establishment by and for First Peoples in Quebec. The signing of this framework agreement will result in the drafting and presentation of a business plan with the goal of deploying a customized course offering, incorporating a unique model combining face-to-face and online teaching while creating a learning environment that promotes cultural safety for Indigenous students.

“It was invigorating to be present at this monumental event with the First Nations Education Council in Wendake last week. I am proud of Bishop’s for their partnership in this project. It is an honour for me to contribute and to be a part of the comité d’édification as we work to build the business plan for a First Nations University in Eastern Canada that is long overdue.”

Vicky Boldo, Associate Director Indigenous Initiatives – Bishop’s University

“Bishop’s University is happy to support this important initiative as it aligns with our commitment to supporting true access to university level education for members of Canada’s Indigenous communities and better welcoming those that chose to come to Bishop’s.  We are looking forward to continuing this conversation with the House of Knowledges and all Quebec universities.”

Sébastien Lebel-Grenier, Principal and Vice-chancellor – Bishop’s University
