BMO Contributes $200,000 to Support Indigenous Student Success at Bishop’s University

Bishop’s University is proud to announce a generous contribution of $200,000 from BMO in support of Indigenous student support and initiatives.

This four-year funding commitment will strengthen Bishop’s University’s efforts to foster safe, inclusive, and empowering spaces for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students. The initiative is part of a broader commitment to reconciliation and intercultural learning, and aims to enhance the academic, personal, and professional success of Indigenous students.

“Thanks to partnerships like the one with BMO, we are able to offer students enriching experiences that strengthen their connection to their culture, support their personal development, and reinforce their commitment to their identity and heritage,” said Principal Sébastien Lebel-Grenier. “We remain committed to integrating Indigenous knowledge into our academic life, welcoming Elders, supporting Indigenous-led research, and ensuring our curriculum reflects the diverse histories of Indigenous peoples.”

“We know that it can be financially challenging for Indigenous students to access post-secondary education, the Abaznoda BMO Fund comes at just the right moment, stated Vicky Boldo, Director – Indigenous Initiatives & Intercultural Relations. “We are grateful for BMO’s commitment to recognizing the importance of supporting cultural programming as an important compliment to Indigenous student success, personal growth and well-being. The Abaznoda Fund will be directed toward reducing financial barriers through bursaries and emergency funding. It will also support land-based programming and cultural activities that foster connection to traditions and knowledges.”

“At BMO, we are proud to stand with Bishop’s University in supporting Indigenous students. Guided by our purpose, To Boldly Grow the Good, in business and life, this contribution reflects our commitment to reconciliation and to creating safe and empowering spaces where First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students can thrive, strengthen their voices, and shape a brighter future ”, stated Katy de Grandpré, Regional Vice President, Personal Banking, BMO.
