Research Support Fund: Post-Award Financial Management at Bishop’s University

Dr. Samia Mihoub is the newest addition to the personnel dedicated to research administration at Bishop’s University. In her role as Grant Administration Officer, Samia provides post-award administrative support to professors who have research funding, and ensures compliance with the University’s and funding agencies’ financial administration policies and procedures. Samia is also responsible for monitoring the Research Office’s financial resources.

Post-award financial management is an essential service in any post-secondary institution’s Office of Research Services. Monitoring spending, processing invoices and overseeing the eligibility of expenses are all means by which the institution ensures that research funds are spent responsibly within the parameters of the agency that has provided them. Because researchers collaborate with colleagues at other institutions, the Grants Administration Officer also liaises with Business Offices and Research Offices at other universities to ensure that funds are correctly transferred between institutions. This detail-focused work also allows researchers and the institution to provide accurate reports on their use of funds.

The Research Support Fund of the Federal Government supports a portion of the costs associated with the Research Office’s oversight roles, such as salary expenses for staff members who provide administrative support such as Samia Mihoub.
