Dr. Trygve Ugland is a Guest Researcher at the University of Copenhagen for Fall 2025

Dr. Trygve Ugland’s project is called “The Nordic Political Model and North America”.

This research investigates the politics of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden through the framework of the “Nordic political model,” analyzed from a North American perspective. A central focus of the project is the transatlantic flow of policy ideas and practices, examining how these have influenced political thinking and policy-making in both the Nordic countries and in Canada and the United States.

During his time in Copenhagen, Dr. Ugland is engaging in archival research including both published and unpublished government documents and conducting interviews with politicians and senior officials affiliated with the Nordic Council and the Nordic Council of Ministers.
