CIBC Announces $200,000 Commitment to Indigenous Student Bursaries at Bishop’s University

Bishop’s University proudly announces the generous commitment from CIBC to support Indigenous students through bursaries, reinforcing the institution’s ongoing dedication to fostering diversity and inclusion in higher education. The $200,000 commitment will provide financial support to First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students, helping them pursue their academic and personal goals.

Madame Rosa Trunzo, Senior Vice-President and Regional Head at CIBC, emphasized that initiatives such as this one are at the centre of CIBC’s values:

“It is important to emphasize that celebrating diversity is a shared passion at CIBC. Thank you for inviting us to support you in your mission, which helps the development and fulfillment of Indigenous students. We were very touched by the stories and testimonials we received, and we feel privileged to contribute in our own way to your future.”

Bishop’s University Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Sébastien Lebel-Grenier, expressed gratitude for CIBC’s generosity, stating:

“Thanks to your commitment, the recipients of the CIBC Indigenous Student Bursaries can continue to pursue their dreams, gain the knowledge and skills they need, and ultimately become stronger leaders and change-makers in their communities.”

Vicky Boldo, Associate Director of Indigenous Initiatives at Bishop’s University, reinforced the importance of these bursaries and highlighted the impact they have on the recipients:

“These scholarships represent more than just financial support; they symbolize a commitment to education, empowerment, and opportunity. They are a reminder that when we invest in the future of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students, we are not only investing in individual success but also in the cultural richness and strength of their communities.”

Julie-Ann Vollant-Whittemore, a 2024-2025 bursary recipient, spoke about the positive effect CIBC’s support has had on her educational journey and that of this year’s nine additional recipients:

“Your support is making a profound difference in our lives, and we are all so incredibly grateful. We may come from different backgrounds and walk different paths, but your belief in our potential unites us all. Thank you for believing in us and for helping us achieve our dreams. We look forward to giving back to our communities and making a positive impact on the world in the future.”

This funding demonstrates CIBC’s commitment to education and Indigenous student success, ensuring that more students have the opportunity to thrive at Bishop’s University.
