How does Gaiters Unite: Recruit and Earn work?

  • Text, email, FaceTime, call, DM, visit your old high school – any way you can reach someone that is considering university in Fall 2026.
  • Share your experience! We know how much you love being a part of the Bishop’s community, and we’re asking you to spread your purple pride. Tell them all the ways you love your university experience and why you think Bishop’s would be a great option for them (you can also use the handy templates below if you need some help).
  • When the person you referred to Bishop’s applies, there will be an additional form to complete along with their application form. It’s right there in the application form- tell them not to miss it!
  • Be sure to provide your email. The person you are referring needs to add it to their application, so we know the referral came from you.
  • That’s it!

Template Messages for Referrals

(if you want or need some help)

Grab a template if that is helpful for you but make sure you customize it with your year and area(s) of study, and of course, what is the most special part of Bishop’s to you and why someone else might like it!

Dear X,

I wanted to reach out because I’ve been at Bishop’s for X years now, and I love it. It’s way more than I imagined, and I think it could be a great fit for you. They have a referral program on right now which is why I’m reaching out.

I’m in X program but also taking a few classes in X and X. They really encourage that here, so you get a wider perspective on things. My classes are small. The campus is awesome. I lived in residence for a year (highly recommend in first year!), but now I share an apartment with a couple of friends – it’s just a 10-minute walk from campus. But my favorite thing are the professors. They know who I am and care that I succeed in class, which usually means they are willing to take extra time with me. I know not everyone thinks that’s important, but for me it’s made a big difference.

So I highly recommend you add Bishop’s to your list! Get your application in and just keep the door open so when you are ready to choose it’s an option for you. And come for a visit! You’ll for sure decide to come here once you see it. There’s an open house on March 21. It’s easy to find on the website.

If you do apply, can I ask that you include my name and Bishop’s email in the application form? When you apply, there will be a field that asks if you were referred by a student and to enter their info. My full name is X and my Bishop’s email is X. That would be awesome, I appreciate it. And really, you won’t regret this decision.

Hi X,

I can’t believe you are starting uni next year. Crazy!

Bishop’s has this referral program on right now, so I wanted to reach out. But honestly, I would anyway since I love talking about Bishop’s, and pretty much feel like everybody should come here.

I’m in X year studying X. It’s pretty great. Our department is tight since the classes are small. Actually, almost the whole campus is tight since there are less than 3,000 students here. Kind of crazy – students from all over the world and a really bilingual campus. Being French, I was worried about my English in class, but it’s actually been really much better than I thought and the profs are so supportive. I’ve even been able to hand in a few assignments in French!

We have some co-ops coming up this semester which is very cool, as it lets me test drive my career and see what it’s like. But I think for me it’s just the vibe here that I love most. It’s everything I imagined for my university experience. I love being so close to nature. The student experience is amazing, and the community is just really tight and supportive and nice.

Anyway, I love it, and I think you would too, so you should apply. Do me a favour, if you do, can you include my full name and Bishop’s email in the application form? My email is X. You’ll see a place to add it in the application form and will make sure I am connected to the referral. Thanks. Oh, and after you apply you should def come to open house on March 21 to see the campus. You’ll never look back!!!

Hi! You’re looking into universities, right? The university I go to, Bishop’s, has X program, and I thought you would be interested! Small class sizes, personable professors, and a lively community all work together to create the best education I could’ve asked for while letting me have the freedom of choosing what I learn. If you apply, I’d appreciate if you use my name and Bishop’s email in the referral section (my email is X). Applications are closing soon, so you can send one in and get your foot in the door now! Can’t wait to see you on campus 🙂

Howdy! Are you still looking for a university to go to? I highly recommend Bishop’s University (the one I go to) 😊 The place is great; they have small class sizes so the professors know your name, they have an education model that lets you choose what you want to learn at the pace you want to learn it at, and the community here is so vibrant. I love my classes and want you to love yours. You should apply soon as their application window is closing! If you could use my name and Bishop’s email in the application, I would be super grateful. My email is X@ubishops.ca.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can refer anyone who you think will love Bishop’s! They can be a graduate or undergraduate student and must be ready to start full time in Fall 2026!

Feel free to use the templates above to help with your communication if you like. But most of all, just be honest about what you love about Bishop’s! Tell them about what you like, why you like it, and why they might appreciate it too. Here are a few things we hear often from students;

  • student life is exceptional
  • relationships with profs and what it’s like to have small classes
  • benefits of studying in multiple disciplines
  • the community!
  • living in the Townships! More affordable, walk to class, access to outdoors, etc.

Bishop’s parties can be legendary, and not always in a good way. So, if someone asks about the party scene or reputation here are a couple of things you can mention;

  • Bishop’s has a small residential campus with a close-knit community, so…get-togethers, on and off campus are common. This includes group dinners, movie nights, game nights, and yes, parties.  We stand out more due to our location and size. An influx of 2000 plus students to a small town does not go unnoticed.
  • The Bishop’s advantage is that we are able to provide our students with a safe and secure environment with our 24/7 on campus security, safety staff on duty during busy nights, safe walk, SafeDrive program, Safety Tents, etc. Parties are comparable to those at other schools but not more extreme, and the University has many resources to manage risk and enhance safety, with a harm reduction approach.

There will be an extra form they need to complete in their application for you to be compensated! They will need your full name and Bishop’s email to do so.

Payment for qualified referrals will be made following the add/drop deadline in the Fall 2026 semester. Cheques will be available for pickup at Bishop’s, or, for those no longer on campus, special requests can be made for cheques to be mailed.

Yes! You will be paid by cheque. You will have to fill out a request form to provide important details prior to the cheque being sent.

Applications have to be submitted no later than March 1, 2026, to a full-time undergraduate or graduate program.

Yes! If applicable, the money will be applied to your tuition. If not, you’ll be able to use it for dining on campus, printing services, residence fees, and anywhere that accepts Gaiter Dollars. Your existing scholarship money will not be affected.

No, your scholarship money will not be affected. The money you get from the referral program will be additional money in your account. You can use this for tuition or for any transaction which accepts Gaiter Dollars.

Thank you for being proactive and inviting someone to join our community. However, we won’t be able to add you to this program. Please, don’t hesitate to refer other people to enter the program and earn!
