Meet Andrew Stevenson– Top 10 Student in the Perimeter Institute START Satellite Program at Bishop’s University

Andrew Stevenson was excited when he found out he had been accepted into the PSI START Satellite Program. Knowing how competitive the program is, he felt honoured to be selected. He was also grateful for the opportunity to explore physics beyond the scope of his undergraduate studies.

He didn’t always know he wanted to pursue physics. After high school, he took a year off to work and save money for university. During that time, he realized that physics was what he thought about most when his mind was free. That insight helped him recognize his deep passion for the subject.

He believes physics is exciting because it tackles the biggest questions of existence—such as how the universe came to be and how it works. To him, understanding the universe is the ultimate mystery, and he encourages younger students to study physics for that very reason: it offers a chance to help solve one of the greatest puzzles of all.

During the two-week program, Andrew hopes to gain a better understanding of high-level theoretical physics. He’s eager to explore a variety of advanced topics and to get a clearer picture of what graduate school in physics might involve.

If given unlimited resources to research any scientific topic, Andrew would choose to focus on unifying gravity with quantum mechanics. After addressing essential global needs like humanitarian aid and medical research, he believes this could be the next major breakthrough in our understanding of the universe.
