David Koranteng: 3MT 3rd Place Winner

Congratulations to Bishop’s University Master’s student David Koranteng on earning 3rd place at the Eastern Regional Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition, hosted by Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on June 5, 2026.

His presentation titled “Preparing for a Hot Date with LISA”, explores how astronomers can prepare for the future detection of merging supermassive black holes using gravitational waves. By studying the many short-lived cosmic events that may appear in the same region of the sky, his research helps scientists better identify the true source when the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) begins listening to the universe.

David is supervised by Dr. John Ruan in the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Geophysics at Bishop’s University. You can learn more about Dr. Ruan’s research here: gamma-research.space/about-me

Congratulations, David, on this outstanding achievement and on representing Bishop’s University so well on the regional stage!
