Post-Doctoral scholar Dr. Olalere Kunle Oluwafemi working on “Unearthing Justice Project”

Dr. Olalere Kunle Oluwafemi is a post-doctoral scholar in the Bishop’s University Sociology Department where he is working on the Unearthing Justice Project with Professor Vicki Chartrand. Professor Chartrand also doubles as the supervisor for his research program entitled Vectors of Justice: Rethinking Models of a Just World. This collaborative effort has further widened his vista, especially with regards to the seamless interaction of research ideas across different geographical and disciplinary divides.

Over time, he has studied the approaches commonly used to address questions of justice regarding missing women and examined how these women are beginning to help develop an indigenous model of justice in contrast to existing frameworks.

Dr. Oluwafemi holds a Ph.D. in Political Philosophy from University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He is also a Senior Lecturer Department of The Polytechnic Ibadan, Nigeria where he teaches Ethics, Social Philosophy and Developing Realm. His research interest is on Justice, Displacement and Post-Conflict Reconstruction. He has also published research articles on Ethics, African Philosophy and Gender Studies in different scholarly journals.

Dr. Oluwafemi was drawn to Bishop’s University after discovering a wide range of opportunities the institution presents in terms of expertise in his research area and the availability of facilities that will further assist him in the articulation of his research interest. Having had the opportunity to teach and interact with the faculty, he thinks that Bishop’s has a well-structured system that allows for the exchange of ideas, multidisciplinary discourses, and a vibrant teacher-student relationship that encourages scholarship and creativity. In addition, he thinks that the size of the university and its environment provides for him, which further deepens intellectual cross- pollination of ideas.

Given the ability to work in academia in both Philosophy and Sociology departments and the multidimensional nature of his research interests, Dr. Oluwafemi intends to fully explore all the opportunities open to him at any University in Canada as he continues in his research effort to bridge the gap between the academia of justice and society’s current state through innovative solutions to social problems. He intends to bring with him his expertise in philosophy and his wealth of experience, both garnered from Bishop’s University and his teaching experience back home.
