Celebration of Research 2026

The 2026–2027 academic year kicked off with an exciting event, bringing together students, faculty, staff, and community partners to highlight the incredible research activities happening on Bishop’s University campus.

The event offered a chance to discover the wide range of research taking place across our academic divisions, meet the people behind the projects, and learn more about how their work is helping address real-world challenges. One of the highlights was the presentation of the Research and Creative Activity Award to Dr. Heather Lawford, recognizing excellence in research and creative activity award.

Dr. Janice Bailey, Vice-President of FRQNT, attended the event and shared insights on Quebec’s research funding landscape, emphasizing the importance of continued investment in innovation and collaboration to support the future of research.

The celebration also welcomed several external organizations, who brought their expertise, technologies, and interactive activities to campus. Attendees had the chance to connect with representatives from eTick, Climatoscope 360, BistroBrain, Transitions Lenses, ETRC, and Inspecteur Genetico, and explore topics ranging from climate change and science communication to emerging technologies, history, and ticks.

There was plenty to discover throughout the event but let’s highlight a few students. The Bishop’s University Research Journal (BURJ) shared how students can get involved and write about their research, while Eric Phendler introduced his wild turkey research project. Steven Poulin also shared his work his research in the form of comic strips. These projects gave attendees a glimpse into the variety of research being carried out by our students.

A big thank-you goes to all of the external organizations who took part in this year’s celebration. Your passion, expertise, and support helped make the event a memorable way to start the new academic year.

As we look ahead to another year of research and discovery, the Celebration of Research 2026 was a great reminder of just how much is happening directly on our campus. From science and agriculture to politics, business, astronomy, education, and beyond, the event showcased the many different areas of research that make up our community and the people and ideas behind them.

As Canadian astronaut and neurologist Roberta Bondar reminds us, “There is no limit to what we can discover if we are willing to look.” It is this spirit of curiosity, collaboration, and discovery that will continue to inspire the research in the years ahead. Until next year!
