Welcome to the Bishop’s University resource page for parents.

Thank you for supporting your student in their decision to attend one of Canada’s leading undergraduate universities. We created these webpages to help you navigate all things Gaiters related and to help you better understand what your child is experiencing. The transition to university can be difficult for both the student and parents but we are here to help provide the necessary information.

Parent & Supporter Information Session

Join us in Centennial on Friday, September 4, from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM for our Parent & Supporter Information Session. This interactive Q&A-style event is designed to help families and supporters learn more about the student experience and available campus resources. Parents and supporters will have the opportunity to submit questions and hear directly from representatives across key departments. Following the Q&A, attendees are invited to connect and network with deans and managers from across the university, providing a valuable opportunity to build relationships and gain insight into the support available to students throughout their university journey.

After the session, parents and their students are invited to enjoy a complimentary BBQ dinner in Dewies Tent, offering another chance to connect with members of the campus community and fellow families before the start of the academic year.

Answers to Common Questions:

This is a great question. Keeping open lines of communication with your child is vital in learning about their transition, successes and failures, and we encourage you to communicate directly with your child about their Bishop’s experience. Once a child has turned 18 years of age, we legally cannot share any information with anyone regarding a student’s academic performance or any personal information, so we will be unable to answer this question for you.

The Academic Calendar provides the timetable of dates for the current year. Typically the Fall semester runs from late August or early September to mid-December and the Winter semester runs from early January to the end of April. There is also a Spring semester that runs from the beginning of May until the end of June. There are no classes or programming in July and most of August.

Bishop’s has a very welcoming community and offers one of the safest environments you will find. We take extreme pride in doing what we can in providing an ideal environment for students to study, live, work and play including providing Campus Security services 24/7. The Bishop’s community totals approximately 2,900 students, 500 faculty and staff and shares our campus with Champlain Regional College which has a community of approximately 1,500 staff and students. Additionally, the Borough of Lennoxville has another 5,800 residents. In total our community is made up of nearly 10,000 individuals so students should use common sense and take regular precautions.

All students living on-campus will be given a mailbox # at our Porter’s Office once they arrive on campus. The mailing address should be the following:

For students living off-campus, mailboxes are available for rent through the Porter’s Office. Students interested in renting an on-campus mailbox should visit the Porter’s Office in person to make appropriate arrangements.

Fees and Funding

All students can find their tuition balance in the Student Self-Service portal. The school cannot provide the balance to parents or other relatives on the phone or by email.

All students can find their income tax receipts in myBU under the Student Finances tab at the end of February.

Scholarships are only allocated after the add/drop deadline in September. If you have confirmation of a scholarship, you can reduce your payment to the university by half of your yearly scholarship. Example: getting $1000 for the year, $500 will be allocated in September and the balance in January (provided you have a minimum fall average of 70%).

The opt out information for the SRC insurance will be sent to the student’s Bishop’s email. It is important to opt out correctly in order for the fees to be reversed on your student account.
