Information Technology Services (ITS) is constantly evolving to meet the current and future needs of the University, while playing an active role in its digital transformation. In 2022-23, ITS completed a number of digital initiatives.
New Business Solutions
Over the course of the year, ITS implemented new business solutions to respond to the needs of the BU community, including:
- A major update to the University’s Student Information System (SIS) – application and self-service capabilities.
- Phase 1 launch of a new residence administration system.
Infrastructure Improvements
To ensure that its technology services are fit for purpose and able to support the University in the pursuit of its mission, ITS is constantly updating and modernizing its infrastructure. Of note this year:
- Purchase and installation of a new storage solution and application servers.
Cybersecurity Improvements
To adapt to a rapidly evolving threat landscape and safeguard the confidentiality, integrity and availability of Bishop’s information assets, ITS has implemented numerous new cybersecurity measures, among them:
- Multifactor authentication for critical business applications.
- Enhanced email threat defense.
- New and stronger VPN solution for remote access to the BU network.
Strategy Development
To orient the evolution of its digital environment, ITS has developed strategies to ensure it is following the latest industry trends and best practices, while meeting the evolving needs of education and research at BU, among them:
- Development of a next-generation multimedia strategy for classrooms.
- An environmental scan of what other universities are doing with respect to digital transformation.
- Launch of an ITS organizational and cultural change initiative.
Service and Support to the BU Community
ITS has made changes to the services it delivers to the BU community to enhance their quality, reliability and responsiveness, including:
- Enrollment of Windows-based end-user devices in an automated management tool.
- Migration to a new and improved video storage solution for hybrid and online courses.
- Pilot project of a new framework to improve IT service delivery based on industry standards and best practices.
