Water and Energy

Since energy consumption, water management, and greenhouse gas emissions are a part of the daily operations on campus, they were priority objectives of our Sustainable Development Plan.

Sustainable food system

Sustainable Food Systems

To keep in line with the fourth objective of our Sustainable Development Plan, we endeavour to create a more sustainable food system on campus by working on reducing food waste, increasing the amount of local food that is served at our venues, offering a selection of Fairtrade certified products, and by hosting Farmers’ Markets on campus.

Sustainable waste management

Sustainable Waste Management

By keeping track of the different wastes created by our operational and academic activities, we can work on reducing the amount that ends up in landfills, staying in line with the first objectives of our Sustainable Development Plan.

Sustainable landscaping and biodiversity

Sustainable Landscaping and Biodiversity

We progressively increase sustainable maintenance methods on campus, such as reducing grass cutting, planting patches of wildflowers for pollinators, reducing the amount of salt used during winter, and reusing wood from trees we must cut down on campus; all in line with the first objective of our Sustainable Development Plan.

Education initiatives and activities

Environmental Awareness and Education

Part of the second objective of our Sustainable Development Plan is to create awareness and incite action for a sustainable community. Bishop’s accomplishes this by hosting various educational activities and supports emerging grassroots projects on campus through mentorships and funding.
