Alumna/Alumnus of the Year Award

The Alumna/Alumnus of the Year Award honours a Bishop’s graduate who has made a longstanding commitment and contribution to the University.

The Alumni Association Executive Committee has bestowed this award annually since 1967, with the exception of 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This year we were happy to give this award to Bob Hall ’79.

Alumnus of the Year

A dedicated volunteer, Bob served as the Chair of the Bishop’s University Board of Governors from 2014 to 2024. Under Bob’s leadership and thanks to his exceptional skillset, experience, and abilities, Bishop’s Board of Governors was able to navigate a number of significant challenges while preserving its ability to put BU’s mission first. We are profoundly grateful to Bob’s generosity in his service to the University.

Bob graduated from Bishop’s in 1979 with a B.A. in History, and in 1983 he obtained a law degree from Université de Sherbrooke. He has been Chief of Strategy and Legal Affairs at Cascades for more than 30 years and has also been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Goodfellow Inc. since 2022. In 2018, he was named Avocat Émérite by the Barreau du Québec, a distinction which recognizes professional excellence, remarkable contributions to the profession, and outstanding community engagement. In 2023 Bob was named Grand Ambassador of Université de Sherbrooke in recognition of his contribution to the university as an alumnus.

For years, Bob has been dedicated to giving back and supporting local causes. He is a member of the board of La Fondation de la Société des Soins Palliatifs à Domicile du Grand Montréal, where he acted as Honorary President of their fund-raising campaigns of 2024 and 2025. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Collège-Mont-Notre-Dame in Sherbrooke between 2008 and 2013. He was a member of the fundraising campaign committee for the Ronald McDonald House in Montreal. He is also involved with The Mackay Foundation, Tour CIBC Charles Bruneau, and Blue Massawippi Project. He has likewise always been a staunch supporter of his almae matres.
