The Young Alumna/Alumnus of the Year Award was established to recognize an individual who graduated in the past five years.

Nominated by their peers, recipients embody the spirit of Bishop’s through their professional achievements or community service. TJ Smith ’19 was the recipient in 2023.

2023 Young Alumnus of the Year – TJ Smith ’19 and Alumni Association President, Alex Cook ’13

TJ graduated in 2019 as a class valedictorian, receiving a BBA in Accounting. Since then, he has successfully completed his Master’s in Accounting and obtained both his CPA and CISA.

During his time at Bishop’s, he was the Bishop’s University Commerce Society President and a SEED Portfolio Manager. TJ deeply valued the experiential learning opportunities provided to him while attending Bishop’s and, consequently, he has been dedicated to creating similar opportunities for others in the BU community. He has coached case competition teams to victory, spoken at networking events, and been a mentor to students and young alum. Over the past year, TJ has been a professor in the Accounting Department, introducing real-world material to help students build crucial skills for post-graduation.
