The Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture (FRQSC) provides undergraduate introduction to research scholarships of $5,000 to allow undergraduate students in eligible programs to undertake a 200-hour research assistantship under the supervision of a Bishop’s University faculty member during the Summer 2026, Fall 2026, and/or Winter 2027, through a maximum of two continuous semesters.
Eligibility
Student eligibility
To be eligible, students must be:
- registered in an undergraduate program at an eligible institution (Bishop’s is eligible) leading to a bachelor’s degree in an area covered by the FRQSC;
- have never held an Undergraduate Initiation to Research Scholarship from the FRQSC.
Supervisor eligibility
To be eligible, supervisors must be:
- tenured/tenure-track Faculty at an eligible institution*;
- from an area covered by the FRQSC.
Application Process
Applications must be submitted by email to the Graduate Studies Coordinator (Jimmy Couturier: jimmy.couturier@ubishops.ca) and include the following:
From the student:
- Verification of Enrolment (available through myBU)
- Description of the project (maximum two pages, must include description of the project, responsibilities of the candidate, expected outcomes for the candidate, etc.)
- Abstract of the project (maximum of 500 words, in French)
- Official university transcript(s)
From the supervisor(s):
- Letter of presentation (maximum one page, must include the candidate’s motivation, the quality of their application, the relevance of the internship, their potential for research training, or any other elements deemed relevant.
- Schedule (one page, must outline the planned activities related to the objectives of the internship, specifying the number of hours per week the intern will be present at the internship site, for a total of 200 hours).
Applications may be submitted in both official languages (French or English) as long as the entirety of the application is submitted in the same language.

Candidates have until May 24th, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. to submit their complete applications.
Evaluation criteria
Academic excellence – 40 points
Relevancy of the internship and research potential – 60 points
