Principal Lebel-Grenier addresses parliamentary committee on Projet de loi 74

Earlier this week Principal Lebel-Grenier, along with Dr. Graham Carr, President of Concordia University, appeared at the Commission des relations avec les citoyens parliamentary committee hearings to speak on Projet de loi 74, Loi visant à améliorer l’encadrement aux étudiants étrangers.

Tabled in October, Bill 74 aims to give the ministers of immigration and higher education a discretionary power to limit the number of international students admitted to all or specific universities in Quebec.

International students contribute significantly to the vitality of our university campuses and play an important role in Quebec’s economic and social development. And at Bishop’s, our diverse campus community has long been central to our identity.

The parliamentary committee hearings were an opportunity for Bishop’s and Concordia to present their views on the risks and potential impacts of the proposed law.
