Financial Aid

Bishop’s University offers various types of financial aid to our students, mainly through scholarships and bursaries. In addition to our scholarships and bursaries, we encourage students to look at external scholarship programs, government financial aid through your Canadian province of residence, or investigating student loans or lines of credit via banks. Canadian Students

As a Canadian student, you will find various types of financial aid available to help you finance your studies.

Government Aid:

The main source of funding for students is government financial aid which can include loans, grants, and bursaries. The federal/provincial governments offer aid program for students based on financial need. Students apply directly online to their province or territory of residence. More on the Government Aid web page.

External Scholarships/Awards:

Students may apply to different organizations for scholarships or awards based on various criteria. A multitude of websites will provide information on these awards. We encourage you to contact local groups around your home to see what is available. In Canada, over $5 million in unclaimed scholarships and awards sit undistributed so we highly recommend that you do some searching and apply for as many awards as you can – you never know what you might receive!

For students of First Nations, Inuit or Metis heritage, Indspire is the largest funder for indigenous education outside of the Federal government. For more information on bursaries and scholarships offered by Indspire please visit their website.

Bank Loans / Line of Credit:

Most banks offer Student Loans or Lines of credit to full-time students. Various rules and regulations apply depending on the institution. Contact your bank for more information.
