Information for non-francophone students:

If you never studied French, you may register directly for any sections of FRE100 without taking the French Placement Test or without permission from the Department (Canadian students must take the Placement Test).

If you have taken a French course before or have some knowledge of the language, you must take our French Placement Test.

Take the French Placement Test

It should take you about 30 minutes. Your test will be analyzed within the next regular business day, and you will be granted permission to register for the proper course(s). To see which course(s) you could/should take, you must consult the same Moodle page, under the second heading: “Recommended Courses”.

If you have taken French with us before, you may register for the following course(s) in the suggested sequence, please see page 120 of the Academic Calendar.

Information for francophone students:

Francophone students do not have to take the French Placement Test.

Si vous voulez suivre un ou des cours de français avec nous et que a) un de vos parents est francophone et/ou b) vous avez fréquenté un établissement francophone dans le passé, vous devez vous inscrire à un ou des cours dont le sigle commence par FRA! Notez que vous pouvez vous inscrire à ces cours sans permission ou prérequis, peu importe le sigle du cours. See the Winter schedule in myBU.
