Third Civic Engagement Forum for Quebec’s English-Speaking Youth Kicks Off at Bishop’s University This Weekend

On Saturday over fifty English-speaking youths between the ages of 18 and 26 from across Quebec will gather on the campus of Bishop’s University in the Eastern Townships for a week-long immersion into Quebec society.

The Forum’s program will provide the young people an opportunity to learn, share, inspire and be inspired. Participants will come together and meet with politicians, business leaders, civil servants, not-for-profit leaders, journalists and university professors to benefit from their perspectives on Quebec. Over the week, participants will develop position papers on legislative changes they want to see in Quebec which they will present to a mock Parliamentary Commission on Thursday.

“English-speaking Quebecers are a vital part of the political, social and economic fabric of this province,” said Bishop’s Forum Director Yolande James. “The Bishop’s Forum is a unique opportunity for English-speaking youth to forge new relationships with peers from across Quebec and to engage with inspiring leaders.”

“The key objective of this initiative is to help young English-speaking Quebecers understand how some of Quebec’s major institutions operate in order to equip them to advocate effectively for the changes they would like to see in Quebec society,” said Michael Goldbloom, C.M., Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Bishop’s University which is hosting the forum. “Through an exciting, enriching and interactive program, we are seeking to empower the next generation of English-speaking leaders to build a smarter, richer, greener and more inclusive Quebec.”

This opportunity is provided at no cost to participants. The initiative is supported by the Quebec Government as part of its Stratégie d’action jeunesse 2016-2021.
