Season launch of Musique chez nous: the Howard Brown Memorial Concert

2018-19 concert season showcases Bishop’s musical excellence

The Musique chez nous concert series launch at Bishop’s University will be honouring a pioneer and helping perpetuate the series for the future.

The 2018-19 Musique chez nous concert season will be launched at Bandeen Hall with the Howard Brown Memorial Concert on September 21, 2018. Featuring performances by Faculty members of the Bishop’s Music Department, the concert celebrates the legacy of the founder of the University’s modern Music Department. The program includes appearances by Dr. Ross Osmun on piano, clarinetist Pauline Farrugia, soprano Melinda Enns, and Bishop’s Alumna and Bishop’s University Singers’ Director Fannie Gaudette. Proceeds from the Howard Brown Memorial Concert will be entirely dedicated to ensuring the Musique chez nous series’ sustainability.

Musique chez nous is a student-run concert series of the Bishop’s University’s Music Department, designed to showcase the talents of local musicians, visiting artists, and the academic excellence of Bishop’s own music faculty and students.

Musique chez nous concerts, presented mainly at Bishop’s magnificent Bandeen Hall, offer an intimate and relaxed atmosphere in which the audience has the opportunity to meet and mingle with the performers over refreshments after the concert,” explains Dr. Ross Osmun, Music Professor of Bishop’s Music Department and Co-Artistic Director of Musique chez nous.

The new season of Musique chez nous features many highlights, including performances by well-known local musicians such as Sherbrooke’s Tristan Longval-Gagné of Estrio Con Brio; Radio-Canada’s Révélation Jazz de l’année 2018, the Gentiane MG Trio; Bishop’s Dr. Andrew P. MacDonald and Joseph Petric in concert, as well as through the premiere of a new composition by Dr. MacDonald performed by the Bishop’s University Singers, and many more.

Admission for students, from Bishop’s as well as other schools, is free. Subscriptions for the series are available for adults (six concerts for $90) and seniors (six concerts for $60). Individual tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for seniors and can be purchased in advance at the Centennial Theatre Box Office in person or by phone (819-822-9692), or at Bandeen Hall the evening of the concert. Parking on Bishop’s campus is free on concert nights.
