Psychology student Julie Leboeuf wins Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Scholarships for Study in a Second Language

Psychology student Julie Leboeuf received a $7,000 scholarship from the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Endowment Fund for Study in a Second Official Language. This is an extraordinary recognition for Julie’s academic excellence, as only three undergraduate level students were given the prestigious scholarship this year.

To apply for the scholarship, Julie was able to count on the support of the Bishop’s University Research Office as well her professors: “I learned about the scholarship following an email sent by Julie Frédette, Research Officer at Bishop’s. Even though we were super close to the deadline, I went to see her to tell her I was interested, I wasn’t sure I had a chance. Her reaction was instantaneous: “Let’s do it!”.  And so with her help, and the help of my supervisors who were incredibly quick to turn around letters of recommendation, we went through the application process in two days. When I found out that I was one of only three students in the entire country to have received this scholarships, I just couldn’t believe it!”

Winners of this award are selected on the basis of academic excellence, leadership, volunteer and community involvement, and on a demonstration of motivation, adaptability and of a well-defined plan of study. The selection of award recipients is made by a committee of Canadian university and college representatives chosen by Universities Canada.
