Dr. Sophie Boyer Co-Organizing Conference on the Dialogue between Art and Violence

Dr. Sophie BoyerWhat role does art play in the promotion of violent behaviour? What role can it play in the healing process of victims of violence? These questions along with several others will be rigorously studied in an interdisciplinary conference to be held during the annual Acfas congress this week at the Université du Québec à Montréal. This conference, co-organized by Dr. Sophie Boyer, Professor of German and Chair of the Department of Modern Languages, will touch upon topics such as the discourse of violence in popular love songs as well as in the novels of American novelist David Vann, the harm (or lack thereof) caused by violent video games, the role of art in helping children violence victims deal with their trauma, and the visual expression of colonial violence suffered by indigenous women throughout the centuries. This special event was featured in the May 7 issue of Le Devoir.
