MORRIS HOUSE READING SERIES PRESENTS HEATHER O’NEILL

Award-winning author, Heather O’Neill, reads at Bishop’s University
Sherbrooke, September 10th, 2015 – Bishop’s University is pleased to announce the start of its annual Morris House Reading Series, hosted by the English Department, with a reading by and discussion with Montreal native, Heather O’Neill, on Thursday, September 17th, 2015, at 4:30 pm in the Centennial Lobby. The event is free and open to the public. An informal reception with refreshments will follow the reading.

Heather O’Neill’s most recent publication, Daydreams of Angels, was long-listed for this year’s Scotiabank Giller Prize. She is also the author of two novels. Her first novel, Lullabies for Little Criminals (2006), won her both the CBC’s Canada Reads award and the Paragraphe Hugh MacLennan Prize for Fiction in 2007. The novel was also a finalist for the Governor General’s Award for Fiction and the Orange Prize for Fiction. She published her second novel, The Girl Who Was Saturday Night, in 2014, which was shortlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize. O’Neill is also a contributor for The New York Times Magazine, The Globe and Mail, The Gazette, and CBC Books and CBC Radio.

The Morris House Reading Series is in its twelfth year of hosting both established and up-and-coming Canadian authors at Bishop’s University. Prestigious writers such as Claire Holden Rothman, Alistair MacLeod, Anne Michaels, Douglas Gibson, Anne Fortier, and M. NourbeSe Philip have shared their work, answered questions, and spoken personally with students, faculty, and community members during past events. This year’s line-up also includes writer Sarah Lolley and playwright Jordan Tannahill.
