MICHAEL GOLDBLOOM, PRINCIPAL AND VICE-CHANCELLOR OF BISHOP’S UNIVERSITY, FOREGOES SECOND ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE

Principal Michael Goldbloom, C.M., has advised the Chair of the Board of Governors of Bishop’s University that he will forego one of the two years of administrative leave to which he would be entitled at the conclusion of his second five-year mandate as Principal of Bishop’s University.

Principal Goldbloom explained that he made this decision because he did not want his deferred salary allowance to be an impediment to the Government’s willingness to help Bishop’s address the serious financial challenges it is facing.  “It would not be possible for me to continue as Principal if I am compromised in my ability to represent the University in what will be critical negotiations with the Quebec Government”, he said.  “Consequently, although the provisions of my contract are consistent with the norms for university heads in the rest of Canada, I have decided that it will be best to forego the additional leave.”

Me Robert Hall, Chair of the Board of Governors of Bishop’s University, has accepted Principal Goldbloom’s decision, albeit with regret.  “I want to emphasise that the Board and the Principal have been transparent about the terms of Principal Goldbloom’s contract with the Bishop’s community and with the government,” added Me Hall.  “His decision to forego part of the leave to which he’s entitled is another example of the thoughtful and responsible leadership that Michael Goldbloom has provided since taking on the role of Principal at Bishop’s University.”
