Check-in for the 2023 Morning Convocation Ceremony:

Students must check-in Friday, June 2nd between 1:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. or Saturday, June 3rd between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. in the Hamel Lounge in the Sports Centre. Here you will receive your guest tickets and your academic dress for the ceremony.

Student Line up

All students are requested to meet between 9:15 and 9:30 a.m. at the main entrance to the Sports Centre adjacent to Coulter Field.

Tickets

Convocation is a ticketed event due to limited seating capacity in the Denver Gym.

Graduating students do not require a ticket to participate in their ceremony.

All students will be given four (4) guest tickets upon check-in.

Ceremony information for your guests

The doors to the Denver Gym will open at 9:15 a.m., and all guests are urged to be seated no later than 9:45 a.m. as the ceremony will start promptly at 10:00 a.m.

The ceremony will also be live streamed in the VIP Lounge on the top floor of the Sports Centre. A reception will follow on the TD Terrace, after the ceremony. All are welcome.

For guests who are unable to attend, a live stream link will be available and posted on the Univesity’s website prior to the event.

Parking

Parking will be free of charge during the Convocation activities.

Chancellor’s Graduation Dinner

Why should I attend the Chancellor's Dinner?

It is an opportunity for graduands and their families to celebrate their success and to get to know the individuals receiving honorary degrees in a less formal way. It is a chance to spend time with family and friends in a celebratory environment. Tickets are $20 for graduating students, and $25 for guests. Tables seat eight persons. You may invite as many guests as you choose but space is limited. You should RSVP as soon as possible.

How do I know if I’ve RSVP’d for the Chancellor’s Graduation Dinner?

A confirmation email will be sent along with your receipt.

Can I make changes to my Chancellor’s Dinner reservation?

Yes. To change the number of guests in attendance please contact Sarah Haddon (shaddon@ubishops.ca).

Is my reservation for the Chancellor’s Dinner refundable?

Yes, up until May 26th, 2023, your reservation is fully refundable. After that date, there is a 10% administration fee.

What is the dress code for the Chancellor’s Dinner?

Semi-formal / business casual.

Graduation Ceremony

Are there fees associated with graduating?

No. The graduation ceremony is a free event.

Where will the Convocation ceremony take place?

The Convocation ceremony will be held in the Denver Gym located in the John H. Price Sports and Recreation Centre. Due to limited seating capacity, this is a ticketed event, and guests without a ticket will not be admitted. Seats for ticket holders are available on a first come, first served basis. Seating is available in the bleachers as well as individual chairs.

Do I need to RSVP?

Yes. The deadline is May 1, 2023. If your guests have mobility issues, please indicate this when you RSVP and we will ensure that appropriate seating is available.

How many tickets will each graduand receive?

Due to the limited seating of the Denver Gymnasium each graduand will receive FOUR (4) guest tickets. The ceremonies will also be live streamed to a locale adjacent to the live ceremony. A link to the live stream will be available on the website for friends and family unable to travel to campus.

When will I receive my tickets?

Your tickets will be made available when you pick-up your academic regalia in the Hamel Lounge located at the Sports Centre prior to your Convocation ceremony.

Can I have extra tickets?

No. There are a limited number of seats in the Denver Gym. You can check with your friends to see if they need all their tickets.

Do you sell tickets?

Tickets for the Convocation ceremony are not for sale.

Where do I pick up my gown?

Your gown can be picked up in the Hamel Lounge located at the Sports Centre. The specific times will be posted to the Convocation website.

What should I wear?

We suggest business casual attire for women and men.

Can I keep the gown and/or hood?

No. Unreturned gowns and hoods are billed at $350.

Can I keep the mortar board (grad cap/hat)?

Yes, the mortar board is a keepsake.

How can I purchase a Bishop’s diploma frame?

Please note: Convocation and related events are webcast live, videotaped, photographed and recorded. Your use of a ticket to Convocation confirms your willingness to appear in webcasts, videotapes, photographs and recordings, and releases Bishop’s University from all liability in connection therewith.
