With only 44 students on board, by the end of our journey we were more like a family and this quality is something that Bishop’s had which no other university I visited had which was very appealing to me. I love being part of a community with such strong school spirit and pride. It’s like something you would find only in movies. There is nothing in the world that I am more passionate about than animals and nature. Saving endangered species has been my dream since the day I was able to talk. That’s why I’m studying biodiversity and ecology, for the pure passion, but to also pursue a career as a veterinarian. I want to focus on wildlife veterinary sciences with the dream of one day opening my own wildlife orphanage and rehabilitation centre. To help propel me towards this lifelong dream, this past summer I spent two months volunteering at Mankwe Wildlife Reserve in South Africa with help and financial support from Bishop’s. My focus was to learn more about the rhinoceros crisis. I worked closely with the anti-poaching teams on site, helped with monitoring rhino behaviours, and patrolling the reserve both day and night. I’m going back this summer to work with orphaned rhinos, and will be presenting the volunteer project to my fellow BU students upon my return with the hope of creating an alliance between our university and Mankwe Reserve.Bishop’s is a dynamic little community. It’s something special that I am proud to be a part of.
