My reason for choosing Bishop’s was simple – it is a community! My older sister also attends Bishop’s so I learned a lot about BU from her, but I attended an Open House event when I was in Grade 11, and once I was accepted I didn’t end up visiting any other schools or applying anywhere else because I knew that Bishop’s was where I was meant to go.

I was looking for a university that could also be a home. I know that it sounds corny, but in a university with a massive population, located in a major urban center, you’re just one person in a sea of students and people. I don’t think that you can make the same meaningful connections with your peers or your professors when you compare the experience at a smaller university like Bishop’s. Take for example one of my favourite BU moments – the day I moved into residence in first year. Move-in day was when I met some of my closest friends; friendships that I know will be life-long. These friends have made such a positive impact on my life and I am thankful for meeting them. These friends have also helped encourage me to try new things and become more involved. In my three years at Bishop’s I’ve been a member of the Varsity Women’s Soccer Team, Co-Lead and Coach of the BU Women’s Competitive Club Soccer Team, Lead for the Kick for the Cure Fundraiser Event, Member of the Big Buddies and Athletes in Action clubs, and a Bishop’s University Student Ambassador.

I am passionate about opportunity. I really like to try new things, meet new people, get involved in different events and programs, and be a part of things that I enjoy. I honestly think that these are all key parts about going away to university – discovering who you are and what you love most. Luckily for me, Bishop’s has provided me with so many opportunities to branch out, get out of my comfort zone and grow in my own way – and there’s so much more I want to do!
