I had been looking at universities in Montreal but had heard good things about Bishop’s and figured it might be worth checking out. The second I walked onto campus I was greeted by people who were so friendly and kind that I already felt at home. After meeting with my Department Heads who guided me through what my future might look like, I knew it was the only university I could see myself going to.During my time at Bishop’s, I’ve become a mental health advocate having started a Jack.org chapter, representing our institution at two national Jack.org summits, becoming a certified mental health speaker, giving a TedX talk on campus, and most recently, becoming part of the Young Canadians Roundtable on Health which is a national organization through the Sandbox Project.I’m passionate about making a difference for young people across Canada. My work in education, music, and mental health all centers on my wish to make a better place for the next generation. In addition to my involvement with mental health awareness, Bishop’s provided me with the opportunity to go to Kecskemet, Hungary to learn more about my other passion, music education, and I also went to Essex, England on exchange for a semester. I’ve also been involved with the BU Pride Alliance, Gender Equity Centre, and spent three years as an RA (Residence Assistance) as part of our Residence Life program. Despite all of these great opportunities, my favourite BU experience has been getting to hear Edward Snowden speak as part of the Donald Lecture Series. He had an incredible perspective and story to share and to hear him tell it himself was an amazing experience.Bishop’s has provided me with so many opportunities to Make My Purple Mark that I hope there are more waiting for me beyond the Bubble.
