New Residence to open Fall 2022 at BU

New residence construction

Bishop’s University is very proud to be unveiling our newest residence that is set to open in Fall 2022. This new residence is modeled after our bog style residences with a few modifications. Hence why we refer to it as our modified bog residence. Each unit houses two students, each with their own private room, large windows, double beds, a desk, desk chair, window bench, dresser, bedside table, and a closet. Each unit shares an entrance to their bog where their bathrooms, an entrance closet, and a small counter and shelving are located. This small counter area provides a place where you can store some items for coffee, tea, or snacks. This area has a place for a mini fridge, with recycling and garbage built into the unit. This leaves the bedroom with more space for living. The unit is fully furnished, includes all utilities and with our meal plan, service fee for laundry, and internet and all the common spaces in the residence, there are no extra bills. Pay once a month and no worries about any other expenses.

There are plenty of amenities in the New Residence, that are open to all residence students. With a focus on ensuring students have spaces outside their room to relax, we have created our natural light room with hanging chairs that students can relax in, read a book, study, or simply meditate and enjoy the tranquility of the room. Our yoga/meditation room is equipped with a sound system, TV, and yoga mats. The room has lots of equipment to allow students to listen to their favorite music or YouTube video and follow their favorite yoga instructor.

A large lounge on the first floor provides space for residents to gather and participate in the many Residence Life activities that happen throughout the year. In addition, there is a quiet study space on the first floor where residents can study outside of their room alone, with friends, or with their study buddies. A games room on the first floor houses a pool table and TV for when you want to relax with friends. The main feature of this residence is our Multimedia Movie and Gaming Room. This space will allow students who enjoy video games and board games to gather and hang out in a space specifically designed for this purpose. If you are interested in watching a movie, the large screens can be used for that purpose as well. With a surround sound system, this is a great space to enjoy some down time with your fellow residents.

If that wasn’t enough, each of the upper floors is equipped with a floor lounge and a study area as well. The basement also has a laundry room and a large storage area for bikes and other sporting equipment.

Security has been utmost in our minds as we created the new residence. All the doors to the building and rooms are set up with card access. The hallways to the rooms will be locked 24/7 and only open to those that live in the building. Residents from other buildings will be able to access the common spaces but will need to be invited into the private living areas by a resident.

This residence will also be the most accessible residence we have on campus. With an elevator, automatic card access doors, and two units designed with accessibility in mind, we will be able to accommodate students who will benefit from a more accessible living environment.
