Abbott

Abbott

This New Side building, housing a mix of first and upper-year students, always develops a strong sense of community. It’s a great place to meet other students, make new friends, and get some serious studying done when the occasion warrants. This year will be a great one – Abbotteers tend to be a loyal and happy bunch. What more could you want?

Meet the RA team

SRA Laurence

SRA LaurenceHi guys! I’m Laurence, and this year will be my fourth year on the team. You will be able to find my home on the first floor of Abbott! I am entering my fifth and final year at Bishop’s as an Elementary Education Major. Although I will call Abbott home, I have also had the opportunity to live and work in both Munster and Kuehner. Living in Abbott provides a great balance for schoolwork and socializing. One of the highpoints of living in Abbott is that you are near the dining hall, the sports plex, while only being a short walk from all of your classes.

Quick facts about me: I have a passion for music and reading, and will always be up for chats about almost anything and nearly everything. I also enjoy baking and cooking; you will often be able to smell cookies and other baking from my apartment. Although I currently call Ottawa home, I’ve had several opportunities to travel the world, growing up and love learning about new cultures!

I have an open door policy, and if my door isn’t open, you will know where to find me by the locator on my door! I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have before you make your move to campus. I am available to chat if you have questions about how to manage the crazy Orientation Week schedule, managing the first few weeks at University or our amazing dining hall. Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions about residence life and being away from home. You can reach me at LTURBIDE15@ubishops.ca.

I wish you all a great summer and remember, bring purple!

RA Holly

Hey Gaiters!

My name is Holly Burke and I’ll be one of your RAs in Abbott for this upcoming school year! I am looking forward to my first year as an RA, just as I hope you’re all excited to join the wonderful world of the New Side residences.

I am from Gatineau (near Ottawa, but on the Quebec side), but I am so happy to have had the chance to call Sherbrooke home for the past two years. I am bilingual, speaking both English and French. This year will be my third and final year majoring in Honors of English Literature.

My hobbies include; reading, writing, baking especially when it comes to new and interesting (possibly challenging) recipes, and going to the gym! Netflix also consumes the vast majority of my spare time… I mean who doesn’t love a good binge!

As an RA, I am here to offer support throughout the semester to make sure that your transition into university life runs as smoothly as possible. I am always available to answer any of your questions or concerns. You should always know where to find me, given the locator on my door! Feel free to contact me via email at hburke17@ubishops.ca if you have any other questions about residence life and being away from home.

Have a great summer, don’t forget your PURPLE!

Meet your RLC

Adam Rand

Adam RandHello,

My name is Adam Rand and I am the Residence Life Coordinator for Norton, Pollock, Kuehner, and Abbott. I live in the iconic residence of Norton, and my office is in the apartment style building of Paterson. As a Residence Life Coordinator, I will oversee the well-being of all residents that choose to reside in these specific buildings and most importantly will ensure that all feel respected.

I graduated from Bishop’s University in 2018, with a Bachelor in Sociology: Criminology, Law, and Social Policy with a minor in Psychology. I know my unique work experience over the past five summers in a remote Inuit community of Puvirnituq Nunavik, working with and alongside law enforcement, medical staff, community, and social workers will bring a positive impact to the students and community of Bishop’s University.

My interests include reading Philosophy, indulging in Podcasts, watching MMA and anything Health & Fitness related. I also see personal growth as an essential contributor to a healthy community. With that said, I hope this academic year is full of learning opportunities, memorable events, and exciting new experiences.

I want to wish you all a wonderful and successful year here at Bishop’s University. If you have any questions, concerns or just want to have a friendly conversation do not hesitate to reach out to me at arand@ubishops.ca or drop by my office during work hours on the first floor of Paterson.

I look forward to meeting you all!

Adam Rand
