Bishop’s has 3 graduation periods. One in the Fall, Winter and Spring and one Convocation ceremony each year

Fall Graduation

You complete your studies by December and intend to graduate at the end of the Fall semester. If you are approved to graduate at the January meeting of Senate, your graduation date will be in January and your diploma will be presented at the Convocation ceremony in June.

Winter Graduation

You complete your studies by May and intend to graduate at the end of the Winter semester. If you are approved to graduate at the May meeting of Senate, your graduation date will be in May and your diploma will be presented at the Convocation ceremony in June.

Spring Graduation

You complete your studies by August and intend to graduate at the end of the Spring semester. If you are approved to graduate at the September meeting of Senate, your graduation date will be in September and your diploma will be presented at the Convocation ceremony the following June.

Graduation vs Convocation

Graduation is the date of Senate in which you were approved to graduate. This date will appear on your official transcript and your Letter of Verification as your date of graduation.

Convocation is the in-person ceremony in which your diploma will be awarded.

Applying to graduate

The Application Box to apply to graduate will be available to students who have completed or are enrolled in enough credits to satisfy their degree program by the end of the semester (students can reference the Academic Calendar for more information pertaining to their degree program).

  1. Students will be sent an email to their BU email address explaining that the application to graduate is now available.  This will occur for eligible students a few weeks after add/drop.
  2. Students will follow the instructions on the email to access the application box via their myBU Portal
  3. Students will follow the link to the application and select the appropriate fields (students graduating with 2 degrees should see their 1st and 2nd degree present on the application form)

Follow the instructions on the application and submit the form. Once you have successfully submitted your application you will be sent an email confirmation.

Missed Deadline to Apply

If you miss the deadline to apply to graduate, please email convocation@ubishops.ca as soon as possible to inquire about what steps to take next.

Following Senate meeting when students are approved to graduate

The week following graduation students will be provided with:

A Letter of Verification

  • The Letter of Verification should be used as proof of graduation in lieu of providing your diploma and should be accepted by employers, agencies, post graduate schools etc. This Letter is signed by our Registrar and stamped with the Bishop’s seal.

Official Transcript

  • Instructions on how to request their official transcript. Students will be able to request their official transcript via email and/or mail. Transcripts will be changed from reading In Progress to Graduated.

Diploma Language

All diplomas are printed in Latin. An English translation paperwork will be provided.

Distinction and Awards

With distinction is not printed on your diploma. This notion will only appear on your official transcript.

Prizes and Awards will be printed in the Convocation Booklet which is distributed during the ceremony.
