You are considered a USA high school student for admission purposes if you:

  • are currently completing Grade 12 at a high school in the United States or a school that follows a USA-based curriculum; or you
  • graduated within the last two years from high school in the United States and you have not studied elsewhere since graduation

For students who are enrolled in the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, please refer to our International Baccalaureate admission requirements.

For students who are enrolled in the Baccalauréat français (BACF) curriculum, please refer to our Baccalauréat français admission requirements.

Applying to Bishop’s University

USA High School Students can apply to Bishop’s University either through the main university website or through the Common Application. The Common App is an easy way to apply and submit documents using a portal that is built for USA students. Our Common App application is test optional and does not require an essay.

General Admission Requirements

The following requirements should be used as a guideline to be considered competitive for admissions consideration. Each admission cycle, Bishop’s University receives more applications than spaces available. Meeting the minimum posted requirements does not guarantee admission. Applicants who do not meet the posted requirements may be considered on an individual basis. In those cases, the Admissions Office may request additional information in addition to that indicated below.

WILLIAMS SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

  • Required grade 11 course: Mathematics

HUMANITIES

  • Music: audition and letter of musical background required. See the Required Supporting Documents below for more information.
  • Studio Art: No portfolio required
  • Drama: No audition required

SOCIAL SCIENCES

  • No specific requirements

NATURAL SCIENCES & MATHEMATICS

  • Required grade 12 course(s) for B.Sc applicants: Pre-Calculus or Calculus, 2 of Biology, Chemistry, or Physics
  • Required grade 12 course(s) for B.A. applicants to Math, Biology, or Computer Science: any Grade 12 level Mathematics

SCHOOL OF EDUCATION

  • Elementary: No specific requirement
  • Secondary – math or science as teachable:
    • Required grade 12 course(s): Pre-Calculus or Calculus, 2 of Biology, Chemistry, or Physics

Some USA high school curricula do not permit a student to take two of Biology, Chemistry, or Physics in the Grade 12 year. Students applying from such curricula must take one Grade 12 science course and have completed the second science course in Grade 11.

Required Supporting Documents

  • Latest high school transcript, including courses in progress and future term courses showing final or in progress grades.
  • School grading chart and/or school profile.
  • While not required, information such as SAT/ACT, class rank, senior level courses available at your school, teacher recommendations and a personal statement will assist us when reviewing your application.
  • Copy of personal identification document(s). Consult the Personal Identification Documents page to determine what document(s) you must provide.

Bishop’s University takes a holistic approach to the admissions process. All relevant additional documentation submitted by the applicant will be considered. At its discretion, the Admissions Office may formally request additional supporting documentation (personal statement, letter of intent, letter of recommendation, essay, CV, etc..) to aid in the evaluation of an application.

How to Submit Documents

All supporting documentation can be uploaded via our online system at the time of application or can be submitted via your myBU Applicant Portal via the “Submit Missing Documents” option. They can also be sent to us via email to admissions@ubishops.ca.

Admission Timeline

Once the evaluation period has begun for an admissions cycle, files are assessed on a rolling basis. What this means is that as soon as all required documents are received, our office will complete an initial evaluation within 10 business days. (Exception: Master’s Programs, Applications for our Music programs, which need to be evaluated based on their audition as well, and competitive admissions programs).
