Ce financement viendra soutenir la participation de Bishop\u2019s \u00e0 un projet national visant \u00e0 r\u00e9soudre certaines des questions les plus fondamentales de l\u2019astrophysique moderne, dont ce qui se produit lorsque des trous noirs entrent en collision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lorsque des trous noirs situ\u00e9s au centre de galaxies entrent en collision, ils envoient des ondulations \u00e0 travers la structure m\u00eame de l\u2019espace-temps \u2014 des ondulations que nous pouvons d\u00e9tecter pour \u00e9tudier les origines myst\u00e9rieuses de ces trous noirs dans l\u2019univers primordial. L\u2019Universit\u00e9 Bishop\u2019s fait maintenant partie de l\u2019effort national pour construire l\u2019infrastructure n\u00e9cessaire \u00e0 la d\u00e9tection de ces ondulations, appel\u00e9es \u00ab ondes gravitationnelles \u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le <em>Gravitational Wave Astrophysics Infrastructure Network<\/em> (<em>GRAIN<\/em>) est une collaboration pancanadienne de 12 millions de dollars r\u00e9unissant des chercheurs de six universit\u00e9s pour construire le mat\u00e9riel, la capacit\u00e9 informatique et les logiciels n\u00e9cessaires afin de d\u00e9tecter et analyser les ondes gravitationnelles \u00e0 l\u2019aide de d\u00e9tecteurs situ\u00e9s \u00e0 la fois sur Terre et dans l\u2019espace. Fait notable : l\u2019investissement du Fonds d\u2019innovation de la FCI 2026 ouvre la voie \u00e0 la participation canadienne \u00e0 LISA (<em>Laser Interferometer Space Antenna<\/em>), une mission de 2 milliards de dollars de l\u2019Agence spatiale europ\u00e9enne qui utilisera des lasers transmis entre une constellation de trois engins spatiaux envoy\u00e9s en orbite afin de d\u00e9tecter les ondes gravitationnelles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c0 Bishop\u2019s, cet investissement soutient le travail du Professeur John Ruan, titulaire de la Chaire de recherche du Canada en astrophysique multi-messager. L\u2019\u00e9quipe du Pr. Ruan utilise les ondes gravitationnelles en parall\u00e8le avec la lumi\u00e8re pour repousser les fronti\u00e8res de ce nouveau domaine et r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 certaines des questions les plus profondes de l\u2019astrophysique : Pourquoi y a-t-il des trous noirs au centre des galaxies? D\u2019o\u00f9 proviennent les \u00e9l\u00e9ments les plus lourds de l\u2019univers? GRAIN permettra \u00e0 son \u00e9quipe de se joindre \u00e0 cet effort visant \u00e0 r\u00e9soudre ces myst\u00e8res cosmiques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab <em>LISA <\/em>d\u00e9tectera pour la premi\u00e8re fois les ondes gravitationnelles provenant de collisions de trous noirs situ\u00e9s au centre des galaxies, ce qui constituera une d\u00e9couverte majeure digne d\u2019un prix Nobel \u00bb, affirme le Pr.
