DONALD LECTURE SERIES IS PROUD TO WELCOME CANADIAN ICON RICK HANSEN

Founder & CEO of the Rick Hansen Foundation, three-time Paralympic gold medalist and Canadian icon Rick Hansen will visit the Bishop’s University campus on Friday, February 9 at 7 p.m. in Centennial Theatre.

Mr. Hansen’s talk is part of the Up 4 Debate weekend, where members of the Maple League of Universities (Acadia, Bishop’s, Mount Allison, and St. Francis Xavier) will be involved in a student debate tournament, TEDXBishopsU type talks and a business case competition.

Mr. Hansen, best known as the “Man In Motion” for undertaking an epic two-year 40,000 km journey around the world in his wheelchair, will talk about his life-long dedication to creating a world that is accessible and inclusive for all.

With nothing but a vision, a trailer and a passionate team of supporters, Rick pushed his wheelchair out of Vancouver on March 22, 1985, to set out on a journey that would make history. The Man In Motion World Tour was fueled by two big dreams: to prove the potential of people with disabilities and the importance of a world without barriers, and to find a cure for paralysis after spinal cord injury. Rick and his team traveled through 34 countries, wheeling through the United States, Britain and Europe, the Middle East, New Zealand, Australia, and the Far East, before returning to North America on May 22, 1987. The Tour raised $26 million and became a catalyst for enormous change.

Into its 10th season, the Donald Lecture Series brings speakers of national and international renown to the Bishop’s campus to provide insight, provoke thought, and stimulate debate on the most compelling issues and events in the world today. The series is made possible thanks to the generous support of Bishop’s alumnus John Donald ’60, DCL ’12. All lectures are free of charge and open to the public.
