Residence Availability Update

The COVID-19 pandemic has engendered a situation that none of us has experienced, leaving us trying to navigate uncharted waters. Throughout this situation, our mandate has been to maintain the health and safety of our community. Thus, in order to fulfill this mandate the University is only offering single rooms on campus this fall. As such our residence capacity has been reduced and the university is no longer able to guarantee on campus housing for any applications received after June 1st, 2020. Residence Services will assign students, who apply after June 1st, 2020 to residence on a first come first served basis. Only after receiving both your application and deposit will we consider your application complete. The date of your complete application is the date that will be used to determine residence priority.

We thank you for your patience and understanding during these unprecedented times as we try to determine how to best accommodate students while ensuring the health and safety of our community.

Visit the Residence Application web page for more details.

Dear members of the Bishop’s community,

March 14, 2020

Dear Bishop’s students,

The University Senate met yesterday afternoon, March 13, 2020, to decide on how the University will proceed following Premier Legault’s announcement that all schools and universities in Quebec should suspend in-person classes effective Saturday, March 14, 2020. An electronic vote of Senate also occurred this morning, March 14, 2020.

The following decisions were made:

Dear Faculty,

We understand that the current situation is causing stress and anxiety for many people. At the same time, we appreciate the patience and perseverance of the community as we work through this situation in coordination with the ministries of education and public health.

Health Services advice for safe travels during reading week

Reading week is an occasion for many to travel. To ensure everyone returns safe and sound, we encourage you to carefully consider the travel advisories of Global Affairs Canada regarding the risks associated to travel in various parts of the world, especially in light of the current coronavirus outbreak in various regions of the globe. Remember that simple and basic hygienic precautions, such as washing hands with soap and warm water can mitigate many health risks. Please consider seeking appropriate medical assistance if you were to develop symptoms such as fever and cough. We wish you a safe and enjoyable Reading Week.

Principal Goldbloom’s message about the Coronavirus outbreak in China

As you know, there has been a coronavirus outbreak which originated in the Wuhan region of China. Whereas the vast majority of diagnosed cases have been in China, there have been a small number of cases diagnosed in other countries. Currently we are aware of two confirmed cases in Toronto and one confirmed case in Vancouver.

Bishop’s University is monitoring the situation closely. You can find up-to-date information about the coronavirus by clicking on the websites of the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Quebec Health Services.

If you have travelled to China in the past 21 days and are presenting symptoms of fever, cough and difficulty breathing please go directly to the hospital rather than to our campus clinic.

I encourage all of us to remain courteous and respectful of one another.

Michael Goldbloom, C.M.
Principal and Vice-Chancellor
