BISHOP’S UNIVERSITY SET TO HOST MAPLE LEAGUE FOR SIXTH ANNUAL UP FOR DEBATE WEEKEND

From February 9th through the 11th, Bishop’s University will host the sixth annual Up for Debate, a weekend of debating tournaments where members of the Maple League, Acadia, Bishop’s, Mount Allison and St. Francis Xavier, will examine this year’s theme: The Maple League Empowers you to be a changemaker.

Students, faculty, and academic leaders from the Maple League universities will spend the weekend exploring the ways in which higher education should provide a balanced and comprehensive experience that challenges our young people and prepares them to become responsible, ethical, and sustainable leadership. The Maple League schools are united in a shared vision that promotes positive change for all members of their communities.

Packed with activities to suit every taste, this event promises to be stimulating and thought-provoking. Activities include:

  • A Donald Lecture by Rick Hansen, Founder of The Rick Hansen Foundation dedicated to creating an inclusive world in which people with disabilities can live up to  their full potential.
  • A student debate tournament in the Canadian Parliamentary style where Bishop’s hopes to defend the winning Jane Blaikie Cup.
  • TEDxBishopsU talks on the theme of changemakers.
  • A Business Case Competition.

All four universities in the Maple League are dedicated to maintaining and enriching the quality of undergraduate education and to improve the overall experience offered to students through innovative, sustainable, and transformative action.
