Bishop’s University launches new Graduate Certificate on Knowledge Mobilization

Innovative program to meet growing need to apply new research knowledge.

Bishop’s University is now offering students a new Graduate Certificate on Knowledge Mobilization, so they can meet a growing demand for such skills in many types of organizations.

“Our survey of the current landscape indicates that there are very few equivalent programs currently offered in Canada, especially in a multidisciplinary setting, explains Dr. Heather Lawford, Program Director and Professor of Psychology at Bishop’s University. However, a variety of organizations and government agencies are increasingly looking to hire individuals who have the capacity to identify sources of knowledge, new technologies or other academic outputs that may fulfill their needs.”

Knowledge mobilization is the process through which cutting edge new research is applied in practice by organizations who want to make the most of the best science available – whether public or private, for-profit or not. Knowledge mobilization consists of identifying relevant academic research and applying it for concrete results and improved outcomes.

Admissions to the new Graduate Certificate on Knowledge Mobilization are now open, until February 15, 2019. Students who already hold a bachelor’s degree or expect to graduate by Spring 2019 can request admission to the program, which can benefit those who expect to enter the workforce soon, as well as those who are contemplating continuing on to graduate studies and research.

Bishop’s University’s Departments of Psychology, Biology and Sports Sciences are joining forces to offer a 12-week Graduate Certificate program on Knowledge Mobilization starting in May 2019. It includes a six-week practicum during which students enrolled will apply their learning and develop their skills in the field within the community.
