The micro-certificates ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES (EAP) I, and ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES (EAP) II is a two-part credited series of courses.

  • Support international students who do not satisfy university English language proficiency requirements to university level which is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.5.
  • Provide an immersive experience consisting of five intermediate level credited ESL courses plus a variety of cultural and social activities assembled to bring second-language students from the equivalent of an IELTS score of 5.5 or 6 to a 6.5.
  • Focus on academic English skills essential for students to succeed in any academic program, particularly precise academic reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
  • Provide out-of-class program activities will give participants first-hand knowledge of Canadian culture and the social skills to live and work within that culture.

Other Important Features

  • Students who successfully complete the EAP I program are eligible to register in the EAP II program.
  • Students who successfully complete the program are eligible to register in a Bishop’s University degree-granting program without further testing.
  • Workshops and activities will accompany the EAP Programs and will be carried out by current Bishop’s students who are completing experiential learning credits in the TESL program under the School of Education.
  • Some socio-cultural activities will be offered to allow students to discover the Eastern Townships and the university campus at large.
  • The Bishop’s EAP Program will also provide students with opportunities to speak to other university students and community members as well they will have access to all facilities and amenities on campus:  library, sports center, student services, health clinic on campus, etc.
