English Language and Literature – In-Depth Learning (ELLiL)

Over the next four years, several professors from Bishop’s School of Education (Dr. Sunny Lau, Dr. Corinne Haigh, Prof. Wendy King and Dr. Miles Turnbull) are partnering with Nord University’s Faculty of Education and Arts in Norway to develop the study of the English language as a window of opportunity for creative literature and language education.

The partnership will enable an enriching student exchange, with two Bishop’s students going to Norway during the fall semesters of 2021, 2022, and 2023, and two Nord University students being hosted at Bishop’s simultaneously.

At its core, the partnership aims to help deepen the quality of English literature and language teaching by enlisting dynamic student teachers and empowering them as agents of change, as well as enhancing the professional development of mentor teachers. The four-month-long exchanges will center around weekly teaching practices in a partner school in each country, regular research meetings, and in-depth collaboration between educators, mentor teachers, and student teachers. The institutions will join forces to enrich the environment in which their students develop their teaching practices and enhance the quality of their teacher education.
