The program is designed to provide students with an opportunity for involvement in governmental affairs, and to provide a general understanding of the Canada-U.S. bilateral relationship through the dynamics at work in the Embassy. There are several positions in the Embassy, for which they screen applicants to match their particular academic and/or area interest. Currently, the Embassy is able to offer the following positions within Public Affairs: Academic Relations, Culture, Press/Media, and Information Services. There are frequently positions available in Trade, Environment, Energy and Congressional Relations.
All interns are retained on a non-remunerative basis and usually work 4 1/2 days per week. Because we offer unpaid internships, students are encouraged to apply for academic credit from their universities for the experience or a related research project.
The program is open to Canadian and American students at colleges and universities in Canada and the U.S.

RISE – Research Internships in Science and Engineering
(Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Physics)
North American Undergraduate Students in science and engineering can gain practical experience as research assistants for PhD students in German universities for a period of 6-12 weeks during the spring/summer months. The doctoral students help integrate the undergraduates directly into the lab work and serve as personal and professional mentors. All participating students receive stipends to help cover living expenses, and the partner universities and research institutions provide housing assistance.
Undergraduates are matched for internships with PhD students in their areas of research interest.
German PhD students receive much-needed assistance with their research projects. They profit both professionally and personally from contact with the RISE students, by increasing their knowledge of the culture, lifestyle, and higher education systems in North America. The project also offers doctoral students an excellent opportunity to gain subject-specific English language knowledge.
Knowledge of the German language is not a requirement for North American undergraduates to participate in the program.
