About the Cluster
In 2009, Bishop’s University identified psychological health and well-being as one its four strategic research areas. The Psychological Health and Well-being (PHWB) Research Cluster is a multidisciplinary research group comprised of members from the fields of Social Sciences, Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Business. Their overall objective is to produce and share knowledge regarding how to enhance the psychological health and well-being of individuals and the communities that they live in. >

Cluster News
February 2013- The PHWB cluster in conjunction with Mental Health Awareness Week is presenting a series of lectures focused on topics relative to mental health from expert speakers, including three PHWB cluster members.
The talks will take place daily from 3 to 4:30 pm in the Cleghorn room. The week's line up includes:
- MONDAY - PROCRASTINATION: "Don't Delay: A Guide to the Causes and Consequences of Procrastination" by Dr. Fuschia Sirois
- TUESDAY- ANXIETY/DEPRESSION: "Beauty Undressed: A Campus Program Every BODY Can Relate To...Let's Talk About Eating Disorders" by Shannon Cutts
- WEDNESDAY - SUBSTANCE ABUSE: "Everything You Wanted to Know about Drugs But Were Afraid to Ask" by Dr. Adrianna Mendrek.
- THURSDAY - RELATIONSHIPS: "Relationships Made Easy" by Dr. Heather Lawford.
- The PHWB cluster is presenting a series of guest lectures from expert speakers on a variety of topics related to psychological health and well-being beginning with our first talk Tuesday, Feb. 5th at 4 pm in the Cleghorn room. Lynda Balneaves, PhD, RN, University of British Columbia School of Nursing will be speaking on "Complementary Therapies and Well-being during the Cancer Journey: Lessons from the CAMEO Research Program". This talk reflects the focus of the cluster's Use of Health Services and the Promoting Well-being research themes.
- Members from the PHWB cluster presented a 6-week community course titled "Pathways to Psychological Health and Well-being in Everyday Life" at the Memphremagog Community School in Magog, QC, as part of the Adult Evening Course series. Cluster members Akanksha Bedi, Lisa Mask, Laura Mitchell, Fuschia Sirois, and Yanan Wang gave talks covering a range of topics to provide students with a broad understanding of the ways to understand and enhance psychological well-being in daily life. The course was a huge success and the cluster plans to give another installment of this course with some new topics for the Spring. - The PHWB cluster presented several events during the 7th annual Research Week. Included were a Stress Management and Active Visioning workshop for faculty and staff presented by Dr. Reid and Dr. Sirois, and the Many Faces of Stress interactive demonstration of the ways in which we measure stress in research, by Dr. Sirois and Dr. Chamoux.
- Several members of the PHWB cluster were recognized for their recent books and publications during the 7th annual Research Week. Dr. Mitchell, Dr. Hull, Dr. Charpentier and Dr. Sirois were each acknowledged during this event, and are featured in the Photo Gallery.
- The Student Health and Well-Being Project is underway!
