BORIS Catalogue: English
The following is a selective list of reference sources available in the Bishop’s Library for the study of Environmental Studies and Geography. This is not a complete list of the available material and does not include any items that can be circulated.
The main source of information is BORIS, the Library’s OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue), and it should be consulted first. You may search by author, editor, title and/or subject either in the web-based version or through telnet. If you know the title or author you are looking for, use Browse otherwise use Keyword to search. If you need help in determining relevant subject headings, look in the Library of Congress Subject Headings or ask for assistance at the Reference Desk.
Look for Library of Congress (call) numbers on the Library shelves between G and GC, GE, GF, GV as well as, QC 851-999, QE1 – 996.5, S 590 - 600 and TD if you want to browse for material on the Library shelves. Material marked Ref. or Ref.Ind.Sd. are in the Reference Room. Material marked Period. If they are recent publications (within the last year) they will be in the Periodical Room to the left of the Lobby as you enter the library. If they are more than a year or two old they will be found in the Bound Periodicals area of the basement. Maps, atlases and Canadian census material can be found in the Map Collection Room on the basement level. Any material put on reserve by your professors can only be found by using the telnet to BORIS. Reserve material is kept at the Circulation Desk. Anything marked with the location General in BORIS is located on the second floor and may be borrowed. Check the status in BORIS to see if it is in the Library.

MAPS AND ATLASES
The Library’s collection of maps and atlases can be found in the Map Collection room in the basement.. Maps will be found in the map cabinets. Specific maps can be found by using the Area or Subject map lists. Copies of both lists can be found on the tables in the Map Collection Room and at the Reference Desk. Please return the lists to their locations when you have finished using them. Maps should be left on top of the cabinets. Please do not re-shelve them.
Most atlases can be found along the left-hand wall in the Map Collection Area but there are also some in the Reference Room as well as others on the general shelves. Check BORIS to find the location of the atlas you are looking for.

STATISTICAL INFORMATION
Paper copies of the Canadian Census reports can be found in the Map Collection Room in the basement. Some of this material, as well as statistical material, is also available on the computer network in the Reference Room. E-Stat is an online source of statistical information on Canada and Canadians which includes census information for 1986, 1991, 1996 and 2001 as well as some historical data. You will also find statistics on the environment as well as some data from CANSIM and CANSIM II which are also available separately. To access these sources of Canadian statistics you will find hypertext links to them on our periodical indexes and databases page. They both have time series of statistical data which can also be shown graphically. If you need to know how to properly cite data and products from Statistics Canada visit
